Microwave Ablation For Varicose Veins
Microwave Ablation for Varicose Veins in Hyderabad
The two commonest types of “Endothermal Ablation” are Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA). Endovenous Microwave (EMW) varicose veins treatment is the latest treatment for leg varicose veins. It uses heat like other laser ablation techniques to permanently destroy refluxing veins. However, unlike EVLA where temperatures are up to about 800°C, and RFA where it is around 120°C , temperature in Microwave ablation is around 80-100°C only leading to fewer chances of vein wall perforation and less ecchymosis. More importantly comparative studies have shown that recanalization rates after Microwave ablation is less compared to both EVLT and RFA.
The closure of these refluxing veins, incompetent perforators and varicose veins in the legs forces venous blood to again flow in the right way again leading to improvement in patients symptoms and healing of ulcers after treatment.
Both RFA and EVLA heat the vein wall to permanently close the diseased vein. However, the microwave does not require contact with the vein wall. Microwave ablation is as effective as both radiofrequency ablation and endovenous laser ablation and EMW varicose veins treatment may well become a new gold standard of “endothermal ablation” of varicose veins in near future.
