ARTERIO-VENOUS FISTULOPLASTY FOR DIALYSIS (AV Fistuloplasty)
An AV Fistula is a connection between Artery and vein created surgically in forearm or upper arm for long term hemodialysis. Your Fistula becomes infected, blocked or narrowed, even when you are very careful. If there is any blockage or narrowing you need a Fistuloplasty.
A Fistuloplasty is performed by an Interventional Radiologist with the help of X-rays.A Contrast dye is used to help locate blockage or narrowing in the fistula. A special balloon is used to relieve the blockage by stretching the blood vessels. The procedure is done under local anesthesia or mild sedation.Why should I have this Procedure?
Over period of time scarring and blood clots are formed within the Fistula, which will reduce the function and effectiveness of the dialysis.
